Ayade Donates More Operational Vehicles to Army
The gesture is coming barely three months after the state government donated over 160 operational vehicles to all security agencies to boost security and surveillance across the state.
Speaking at the presentation of the vehicles to the Commander, 13 Amphibious Brigade, Calabar, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Biu, the state Governor, Professor Ben Ayade stated that the gesture was a demonstration of his determination to ensuring that the state remains peaceful and crime free to maintain its status as the nation’s most preferred destination for business and leisure.
According to the governor, “In recent times Cross River State has been bedeviled with several inter communal clashes and the army had always risen to the occasion to support the Nigeria Police in restoring peace to the troubled communities which is why we need to enhance their capacity to enable them work effectively.”
Ayade noted that “there is no state that is absolutely crime free, you will always find pockets of crime here and there and when it becomes unbearable to the police, the army is always there to intervene and support them,” promising to assist with more of such supports to security operatives in the state to keep the state safe.
Offering insight into how the state is funding security, given the realities on ground, Ayade explained that “It’s exciting and heartwarming that in spite of the challenging period in the country, we have been able to make these vehicles which the army has remodeled and made combat ready for our protection and security of the country.”;
He noted that “Cross River State, being a tourist destination, sometimes this show of force helps to reassure the investors and tourists alike that indeed the state is a safe haven.”
While commending the effort of the army in ensuring security in the state as well as the civil military relationship, the governor maintained that “So far, I am quite impressed with the performance of the army commander which is why Cross River State is witnessing this ambiance of peace and safety that today characterizes our atmosphere.
While commending the Brigade Commander, Ayade said: “I have had several brigade commanders and I think that Biu is one commander that has so much agility, capacity, energy to tackle the security issues in this state, because he understands the terrain, knows the maritime line perfectly well and has so far lived up to expectation, knowing that we are a boarder state and I must commend him for that.”
Responding, the Commander, General Biu, thanked the state government for the gesture and assured the governor that the army will not relent in its statutory responsibility of ensuring that the nation’s territorial boundaries are kept safe and habitable by citizenry.
Biu who described his brigade as “Oliver Twist”, maintained that the donation will go a long way in ensuring effective and efficient operation in the state while calling on members of the public to take security seriously by always ensuring that useful information is given to operatives promptly for immediate action.
